Vertical Farming

Vertical Farming

Columbia University Public Health Professor, Dr. Dickson Despommier is working on building self-sustainable towers for cultivating food products within large cities like New York; Paris, and London.

According to Dr. Despommier’s study, these inner city vertical farms, averaging around 30 stories tall, will be able to feed over 50, 000 people. The farm towers has gain large support among architects throughout the U.S. and Europe claiming that the farms will be better positioned to use natural elements like the sun and wind as energy sources.

Supporters also champion the idea that growing food in climate controlled skyscrapers will reduce weather related problems, limit or eliminate the use of pesticides and other chemicals and ensure high quality organic food within a city.
