Lifestyle: Warsaw In Perspective
When you think of Warsaw, what are the first images that come to mind? Do you think cosmo-city, hub for international artists, haute cuisine, and the fastest emerging cultural city of Central Europe? Well, that is precisely the kind of atmosphere that is drawing a larger number of trendsetters to Poland’s capital city.
In 2008, Warsaw has had its largest increase of foreign gallery owners, restaurateurs and graphic designers, among other artists, who have re-energized the city’s creative scene.
This new blood has by no means leveled Warsaw with cultural superpowers like Berlin, Paris, or London but it signals a growing interest in less explored areas, for those seeking the next big thing. An example of this new work was seen when Gregor Graf’s chronicles of cityscape included photos of Warsaw for his latest exhibition at the Austrian Cultural Institute.
The city has also seen an increase in luxury boutiques. L’Aura, a chic boutique at the center of the city, had its interior designed by Jean Paul Gaultier in collaboration with Matteo Messervy and sells blue-chip labels like Rick Owens and Dries Van Noten.
In 2009, keep Warsaw in your radar as it competes for the title of Cultural Capital of Europe. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on one of the latest hot spots for tastemakers.
